Wasteful Tax Dollars
Editorial By Cynthia Kosco, June 2009
On June 1, 2009 a less than week old female infant was found discarded in a
cardboard box somewhere in Ocala, Florida. The infant was hungry and
fire-ant bitten. The child is now in custody with Children Services. I ask
you, what is more critical here?—worrying about exotic animal owners or
letting unfit, irresponsible women continue to procreate and either murder
or discard their infants? Instead of wasting innumerable tax dollars on
trying to stop responsible, loving, and caring exotic animal owners from
what we do best, and that is caring for our animals, why not set up some
criteria before a woman is allowed to get pregnant? For example, a mental
health evaluation would seem appropriate.
Also, evaluating
whether the woman or family is financially able to raise and care for a
child. We as exotic animal owners have to pass stringent criteria before we
are able to obtain an exotic animal. We don’t discard our babies in
cardboard boxes; in fact, we do not discard them at all. You must keep in
mind that the animal right’s folk have an agenda and they will stop at
nothing to try and show that exotic animal owner’s are unfit. The stories of
wandering tiger cubs, pythons crossing roads, alligators in ponds—these
are all plants from the AR (animal rights) groups in their
quest to give us a bad name.
If AR wants to make an impression in this world, why not concentrate on more
important and pressing issues. I neither have the time nor the desire to
post statistics of unfit mothers recently in the news. This trend seems to
be growing as you can see by the above-mentioned story. There are numerous
exotic animal owners and breeders in the State of Florida. Funny, isn’t it,
as these people aren’t even known? I can tell you there are plenty of crack
head children and adults that we read about everyday and now I’m plagued
with one as a neighbor. I would treasure the opportunity to be nestled among
big cats and other exotics as neighbors. At least I wouldn’t have to sleep
with a loaded .38 beside my bed!
Please, those of you whom may read this and want to get involved in the
fight to
stop our government and AR groups from
passing ridiculous, costly and time consuming legislation, all in the effort
to stop exotic animal ownership, please contact your local representatives
and ask that your tax dollars be put to better use and the more pressing
needs of humanity.
